ESPC Energy Conservation Feasibility Studies

Army Hospitals at Ft. Hood, Texas, & Honolulu, Hawaii

The Army Medical Command (Medcom) provides all types of technical support to the facility management function within all Army hospitals. In 1997, in anticipation of the growing need to utilize alternative financing mechanisms through which to implement energy conservation projects, Medcom retained SEA to perform investment-grade level energy conservation feasibility studies covering two of their most prominent medical treatment facilities (MTFs), Darnall Army Community Hospital at Ft. Hood, Texas, and Tripler Army Medical Center located adjacent to Ft. Shafter in Honolulu, Hawaii, encompassing an aggregate of over 1.7 million gsf. As a result of these two projects, several ECMs were recommended, representing over $7 million worth of feasible capital improvement projects, which are projected to save approximately 25% of the annual energy cost of these two facilities, combined.
